The Boulevard Of Broken Dreams by Green Day
This video very much has direct correlation with what you can see and the lyrics being sung. They pull up in a banged up car in what looks like a Mexican desert with large cacti around them, however you can tell there is a backdrop behind them instead of a real set, but it is quite realistic and I did only realise that the second time I watched it.
Throughout the video they use an effect on the camera where they have edited the screen with flashing black parts which appear on the screen. It continues as the three of them walk down the 'boulevard' of what looks like a damaged and abandoned surrounding of houses and villages.
Vultures are introduced on mail boxes which creates quite a sinister effect and shows there is no life where they are however the birds are looking for any of the leftover pieces they can make use of.
As the singers are walking their body language is reflecting quite a sad and struggling emotion as maybe this is not what it used to be like and there was some sort of hope here at one point.
The camera uses a variety of shots to either show emotion through the close ups but also the long shots to show the surroundings, the characters walking, and the scene of them in a run down building with their instruments. This could be to just remind the audience they are singing this song and the instruments being used. The shots then cut between images of what looks like quite poor people and surroundings, with a 'stop' sign to maybe act as a symbol to look and absorb what is being shown to us in this video.
The lighting in this video is quite dull however quite even meaning there are no spotlights etc. Most of it looks quite natural however in the scene with their instruments there are 'fairy lights' held up on the ceiling which is quite delicate and creates a feel of sympathy and intimacy.
Some of the editing towards the end, develops as a shaky effect is used along with fast motion to increase the pace of the video and feel as if its coming to an end.
