What makes a good Music Video?

I think a good music video requires many elements put together, including effort, time and imagination. A music video will always stand out if the idea is different and unique but also the way it has been made, for example it looks more professional if the shots are steady when appropriate but also the variety of shots you use can make a huge impact on the mood of the video linking to the song.
Also viewer fatigue is a problem as the viewer will begin to get bored of the video maybe because the shots are too long, there isn't enough variety or the shot composition is basic and repetitive. However if the performer is confident in front of the camera and reflects the idea effectively this can make a basically filmed video very intriguing for the viewer in a different sense.
Lip Syncing is another important element, as when you are making the video you want it to look as realistic as possible, so the viewer imagines the performer is really singing, however they are just miming. Therefore to make a video have effective lip syncing the lyrics need to be learned thoroughly, and become almost inhabitant so the performer can begin thinking about doing other things in the shot.

Furthermore shot rotation is important as each shot can reflect a different meaning or atmosphere, for example if the song is full of emotion or vividly wants to create a feeling to the viewer, close ups enable facial expressions to be seen in detail and gives off an obvious meaning. On the other hand long shots can be used to show an environment so the viewer can establish where this video is set.
Mise en scene is a huge part in making a good video as this is when the creator can use their imagination and create good compositions of the elements within the shot, but also lighting can either darken or brighten the atmosphere depending on what vision you want to create. Also the contrast between natural and artificial light is very different therefore that needs to be thought about when planning.

I really like the video to The Lazy Song, by Bruno Mars. This is because it does contrast to some elements to what makes a good video, however they keep the viewers attention the whole time which prevents viewer fatiuge.

Even though it makes it seem like one whole shot, with the camera kept in the same position, the characters movement change the shot types from mid shots to close ups on several occasions which allows the viewer to concentrate more on the characters actions rather than the camera movement.
I also really like this video as they have effectively thought about what the song is about- staying at home and being 'lazy', not doing anything. The set matches perfectly to the song, as the living room feel reflects a chilled atmosphere as this is where people relax at home.
Also you can tell the dancing is very well rehearsed and planned out as at no point do they move out of the shot by accident or the camera has to move to realign all the characters into the shot. Also they are all in time with eachother.
The costumes are very casual and similar too reflect again the relaxed mood of the song.
