Here I will analyse two Low Budget ideas from other schools which will help me understand that a large budget is not needed to make a good video.
'Just Got paid' by The Fix- Remake
This music video was made by Latymer High School, where they got a group of boy's together to star in their video. A few of themselves were in it therefore this shows that everyone was able to get involved as a few were singing and a few filming.
Overall this video is to a very high standard, nevertheless it seems like it had a low budget and simple ideas behind it.
It is set in a studio and a house which both look very professional and at a good quality. The studio is dark most of the time with large spotlights in the background which they use very well at the beginning, as they turn them on in time with the music on by one, almost representing each singer standing in front of them. This good location has a large amount of space which allows the performers to dance and move around without any difficulty or awkwardness. Again this makes the video seem professional and well thought out in comparison to maybe filming in a smaller more confined space. Also during the video the studio looks slightly smoky which gives a great effect with the lights in the background as they are not so bright however you can still see the characters. A few of the shots are close up's in front of a lamp on the wall which is quite a simple detail however adds class and quality to the shot instead of being in front of a blank canvas. Also when the boys are in a room with glass open doors you can tell some sort of light is being used here as their shadows are all reflecting on the wall behind them however the foreground is in darkness which creates a really nice contrast to concentrate the viewers eye upon the performers.
The performance skills of the group is to a very high standard. This is because they have practiced the lyrics well and know them thoroughly so they have been able to think about other components like their body language and facial expressions. They really look like they have got into character and are having fun whilst performing, which reflects a positive attitude towards the viewer creating a 'feel good' moment. They also show good charisma in this video and as an audience we can tell they are confident in themselves and performing to camera by their relaxed and natural body language whilst singing. However I think some improvement could be done on the dancing, even though it was good and in time it slightly weakened the performance overall. On the other hand there was some good thought and skill put into the choreography of the dancing and suited the boy band genre which they chose.
There is also a moment in the song where the lyrics are 'bobbing your head' and here we see some direct correlation as the performers bob their heads in time with the lyrics. This shows the producers have listened closely to the lyrics to identify where they could add some linking movements to the sound.
Voodoo Child by Rogue Traders
Here I have used the application called Jing, to screen capture the video whilst speaking my own view whilst the video is playing. I then had to upload it to a website called screencast.com where I could then recieve the HTML link to embed it onto my blog. This was the first time I have used this technique of research and found that it's a really easy way to make my blog more visual to the viewer.
This video is very much simply created and edited using computer technology. Therefore most of the work was done during the editing stages to create special effects and to make the video more imaginative and interesting. The Sex Pistols were the biggest influence for the song as they wanted to create more electro- punk music.
The Mise en scene colours are very plain, black and white, with some hints of light pastel colours like pink and green to emphasise the images for example the palm trees are shaded pale green.
Editing techniques such as mirroring and folding out animations are used as well as text which has been added, in sync with the lyrics. This is a good way to emphasise the lyrics to the audience and the unusual mix of words they have chosen in the song.
The sound within the song, is quite monotone where the tone of the singing doesn't change dramatically throughout the song and it's quite similar within the verses. This creates quite a general and ordinary atmosphere as there are no obvious climax's within the song. Therefore with this type of song the video should make up for interest which I think it does quite well.
