Analysis of Rock Video 3

This Afternoon by Nickelback

This video is more like the other pop video's however Nickelback is more of a rock artist. I really like this video as it has a narrative and is quite surreal. It shows video's don't always have to be serious and realistic as
shown. For example the police join in the party, boys steal an alcohol van and someone jumps off the roof into the pool safely. Obviously this was done by a stunt man however it was a great shot and enhances a sense of fun and rebellious teenagers. Also how the band were introduced was very imaginative and was included in the story.

It is set in a male teenagers house in America who is having a pool party and wants great girls in bikinis, music and alcohol. The colours are bright and the sun is shining so it is great weather which enhances a feeling of fun and freedom to the audience. Also the expressions on the characters faces are shown through close ups but also you can see through their body language as they are dancing and having a great time.

Nickelback are shown as just a band who is playing at the party however their music is loved, which also makes you as a viewer warm to them as the reaction from the people in the video is good when they hear their music.
The costumes are all suited to the lyrics with just 'chilling' and 'sitting around' wearing casual shirts and t shirts however the girls are wearing bikinis which also reveals a sense of relaxation.
As there is not much heavy sound within the song and it is more relaxed than the previous rock songs, it shows as the video is a contrast with a happier feeling due to the acoustic guitars being used in contrast to electric.
Fast motion is used in the editing area as the girls are getting out the police car. This is a sense of exaggeration as a large number of girls step out of one car which is quite unrealistic.
